Parent’s Guide to Understanding the Standards Based Report Card along with the Common Core Standards

Why Academic Standards Are Important: Academic Standards are important because they help ensure that all students are prepared for success in college and the workforce. Standards provide a clear roadmap for teachers, parents, and students. Having clearly defined goals helps families and teachers work together to ensure students succeed. Our report card reflects student success toward the Common Core Standards.

Student Math Goals

Student Goal Setting

Students this year are participating in assessments that are given 3 times a year, beginning of the year, middle of the year, and end of the year, to assess each student’s growth. Every student will be writing math goals after they completed the beginning of the year assessment. Please look for their goals coming home to help support them. Students will be monitoring their goals through out the year and will be sharing with you their plan for success.

Ways you can help achieve their goal:

  • Ask your child what their math goal is.

  • Ask your child what their strengths are.

  • Ask your child what areas they want to improve on.

  • Ask your child what is their next step to improve.

  • Discuss ways you can work together to help.

  • Go over basic facts when getting ready in the morning.

  • Talk math any time you can find!

  • Visit the envision website to view lessons.

Definition of Bullying

Bullying is a repeated act in which a student or group of students do or say things that hurt another person. Bullying behavior takes many forms. Here are a few examples:

Physical Bullying includes repeated hitting, kicking, stealing from someone, making someone do what he or she does not want to do, damage to someone else’s things.
Verbal or Emotional Bullying includes repeated threatening to do emotional/physical injury to others, name-calling, Intentionally excluding others, cyber bullying, and writing negative things about other students.

As stated in the Informational and Discipline Handbook, District 186 recognizes bullying as a type of violence that occurs whenever a student intentionally, repeatedly inflicts or threatens to inflict physical or emotional injury on another’s body, feelings, or possessions.

To make our school violence-free and safe from bullying, we agree to:

  • Tolerate no bullying in our school

  • Intervene when bullying occurs and strictly enforce rules against these types of behaviors.

  • Empower staff and students to report bullying behavior and treat one another with respect.
